Photo Study Of Some American Pipits At The Smith's Maple Knoll Farms Today

The American Pipit (Anthus rubescens) is a small, slender, drab bird of open country. Although it appears similar to sparrows, it can be distinguished by its thin bill and its habit of bobbing its tail.
It breeds in the Arctic and alpine tundra. In winter it migrates into southern Canada and the United States where it prefers open beaches, fields and agricultural land.
