Photo Study Of
Black Skimmers
One of my favorite
waterbirds is the Black Skimmer (Rynchops niger). It flies over shallow
water, foraging for small fish, using its lower mandible as
a trap to capture
its prey. There is a breeding colony at Stone Harbor Beach but I also see them
at Bombay Hook, Brigantine, Barnegat Light State
Park, Cape May State Park and
the Heislerville WMA.
