Photo Study Of Some Birds At Bombay Hook NWR And Port Mahon, August 11th, 2010

Driving into Bombay Hook NWR yesterday, I saw 700 swallows on the wires along Whitehall Neck Road (Tree, Cliff, Barn and Northern Rough-winged.) Also, the weak cold front  that went through Delaware on Tuesday evening brought thousands of shorebirds into the Bombay Hook area.  All three of the major pools in the Refuge were filled with shorebirds.
 I counted 260 American Avocets in Raymond's.

There were Egrets everywhere, but at the end of Bear Swamp Pool, there were some 200 Great and Snowy Egrets feeding actively.

There were so many Great Egrets, they were fighting over places to perch.

And at Port Mahon, the shorebirds occupied every open piece of sand or mud!

And shortly after an Osprey carrying half a fish decided to fly right over me,

a small flock of Ruddy Turnstones decided to fly right in front of me!
