Photo Study Of A Lark Sparrow
A Lark Sparrow ( Chondestes grammacus) showed up at Richard and Vicky Smith's Maple Knolls Farm in Bucks County, PA on October 14th,2006. It stayed until April 20, 2007. This beautiful and conspicuous Sparrow is a bird of the open farmlands and roadsides from the American midwest to California. It winters south through Mexico. It rarely wanders eastward and this marks the 1st record in Bucks County, PA and only the third in Pennsylvania. The Lark Sparrow often takes over old mockingbird or thrasher nests instead of building its own. Occasionally the eggs and young of two species are found in the same nest, suggesting that the Lark Sparrow shares the nest with the other bird.
