Photo Study Retrospective Of Birds At Maple Knolls Farms, Buck County, PA, November 5th, 2011
Vicky
and Richard Smith live at their "preserved in perpetuity" Maple Knolls Farms in New Hope, PA.
This beautiful resource has fields of
corn,
alfalfa
and oats, hedge rows, two streams,
a pond and a small hardwood forest which attracts
birds all year round. The Smiths have almost
200 species on
their "farm list"! When it snows, Richard spreads manure out in the fields
and the Pipits, Horned Larks, Snow Buntings,
Savannah Sparrows and
an occasional Lapland Longspur show up to feed on the spent grain.
Richard
spotted a Vesper Sparrow a few days ago and while we were able to see it several times, we were,
unfortunately, unable to get a decent
photograph (however,
I did get a distant shot of one last year!) In any event, below you will
find some photos
taken this week as well as over the
past few years of some of
the Smiths' beautiful visitors.
