At Brigantine And
Bombay Hook This Past Week
We were able to hit Brigantine, Bombay Hook and Port Mahon Ditch Road again this past week. The shorebirds were on the horseshoe crab eggs and it made for some great photo ops. We also were able to rescue hundreds of horseshoe crabs that were caught by the new rock barriers at Port Mahon Ditch. If you visit the area, it might be a good thing for you to spend a few minutes doing it also. Just pick up the stranded crabs and return them to the water.
The mud in all three Bombay Hook ponds were also covered with Sandpipers, Dowitchers, Plovers and Dunlins. Port Mahon Ditch had many thousands (yes, thousands) of Ruddy Turnstones engaged in a feeding frenzy in the sand and rocks. The Ruddy Turnstone show this year is one I will always remember.
