The first image shows Allagash Falls in the Spring...high water time. The second image is at Chase Rips which is, of course, the primary reason scouts love to canoe the Allagash. The third picture is a rusting locomotive shamefully abandoned at a lumber company's railsite next to Eagle Lake (after raping the forest why not leave the debris?) The fourth picture shows the mist rising off the Allagash early in the morning. The fifth image is looking at the canoes that have just portaged Allagash Falls. The sixth is a map of the waterway. The seventh shows a "round-up"... counting kids, canoes and gear. The eighth is one beautiful Brook Trout of Maine. The ninth photo looks upstream at the falls and the last is the view downstream.
Flotilla North, Canoes en masse,
Race Chains of Lakes, still, black; like Glass;
‘Round Falls portage; chase Rips, Third Class,
True, noble Scout; brave, veritas;
As Boys start out; yet Men will pass.
From Telos Landing to St. John,
E’er Allagash churns On and On;
Where Wilderness turns Marathon,
Fair Virtue yearns; young Paragon,
Then learns; to cross his Rubicon!
