A Photo Study Of
A Green-tailed Towhee And Some Other Towhees
The Green-tailed Towhee (Pipillo chlorurus) is a beautiful western
species. One showed up this week with a bunch of other sparrows in the
backyard of a birding family in Collingswood, NJ. The bird afforded great looks
on January 5th and I've included some of the photographs of the GTTO with photos
of some other Towhee species below.
I was able to get
back to photograph the bird again early this morning (January 8th) in bright sunshine.
Also, there was a First Year Cooper's Hawk checking out the scene from a tree
right next door. I
have added
some more pictures of the GTTO into the thumbnail display below (images K-O).
The GTTO was still hanging out on March 18th, 2009. I'll bet it heads southwest sometime soon.
