The German vineyards of the Rheinpfalz and the Mosel are so very beautiful. The Fall Harvest Festivals are great fun. After the fifth tasting, however, all wine becomes (ausgezeichnet) outstanding!

The first image is a wonderful photo of the beautiful vineyards of the Rheinland-Pfalz  by my friend Hans Günther Hausen. The second shows the steep slopes of vineyards overlooking the Mosel (Moselle) River.The third is a picture of the Castle at Cochem. The fourth image is the promenade at Cochem with the Castle above. The fifth is a close-up of the Castle. The sixth is a band playing at a Wine Festival in Bernkastel. The seventh photo is a view of the Mosel at Cochem with the Castle in the background. The eighth image shows the steep Mosel vineyards surrounding Trittenheim and ninth is at Bernkastel The tenth shows vineyards at the little village of Röttgen. The eleventh image is a beautiful antique Römer wineglass sitting on our dining room table. It is full of the nectar of the Gods, an incomparable J.J. Prüm Eiswein. The next four pictures show bunches of grapes from the Region. The sixteenth photo shows the Rhein River at Burg Stolzenfels and the vineyards of the Rheinpfalz. The next photo is a panoramic view of the Mosel and its vineyards around the village of Bremm. The last images are labels from the bottles of some very nice German wines.

           Spätlese

             Midst, Slate ledged, Slopes, Moselle and Rhine,
             By vintaged Fields of Palatine,
             Elixirs of the Gods, define;
             Grapes clustered, ripen, intertwine;
             Botrytis-kissed, iced-berried, Vine,
             Yields ambered, nectared, Riesling Wine.

             Dry, Touch of Fruit; Taste so worthwhile;
             Intense; full-bodied; versatile;
             Clean Elegance, earth-spiced; great Style;
             Light, balanced Nose; will age, beguile;
             Finesse, Bouquet, might glean a Smile,
             Impress or sway that Oenophile!
